A letter to decide

When ave 3 people arguing about a situation, or to be more specific, a band´s name, what do do? Ask a 4th person;

This is a letter sent to Katy Krassner, that keeps fans in touch with Duran duran:

"HI! It´s been a while I asked you some stuff Katy, and I would like your help with some new things:

1 - On the video of come undone, is that Simon on the bed?(this was just a ramdom curiosity)

2 - Did someone taught Nick how to play the keyboards or he just looked evrywhere for written information?( my friend Dina is obssessed with Nick and she wanted to know)

3 - This is the most important (and it´s a little long, sorry =D ): the last time I wrote you, I had this band called DeLarge. That band is over, and we have this new band formed only by girls. We were listening to Playing with Uranium, and I just joked "Playin with Duranium" and the girls loved it, and they sugested that we use Duranium. But I read once this interview where Simon says that if DD was a girl´s band, they would call themselves Doreen Doreen. So we were between those two names.
Now I just discovered that Doreen Doreen already exists, it´s a bunch of gay guys who play as a Rokc parody, and they don´t even like Duran duran - at least is what they say on their website.

So, I need your help in this: can you ask Simon, Nick, John and Roger separately, if we should remain as Duranium, or if they have a good sugestion? We would be really happy and proud to be "baptised" by the guys. =D And if they think Duranium is fine, we would love that name even more! =D

And of course we would like to have your opinion too, Katy. We are really fond of you! ^_^y

Duranium with new producer

Duranium is working with a new musical producer: Daniel DuBlues, former guitarrist of the brazilian band Barão Vermelho, and now playing with Blues Pirata.

Wallace leaves Duranium

Was announced last saturday, during Duranium´s concert at the Hightech cafe, that Ricardo Wallace no longer is a member of the band. Because of that fact, Erika Fiore announced that the band will have open subscriptions for musicians interested in playing with Duranium.

"We have some requests", says Erika, "but nothing that a serious musician cannot achieve". According to her, there is no time to be sorry for Wallace leaving: "we have to move foward, we just can´t stop now, there is a lot of work to do, and the new bassist has to be aware of that."

They´re not looking for the best musician in the world, so evrybody has a chance. What they really want, and they made it clear, is someone who´s hardworking and very interested, and "can bring some color to our canvas" as Fiore says.

Duranium performs at the Easter Special

Duranium will perform 3 songs in the Easter Special celebration at the Hightech cafe next Saturday mar 29 at 6:30 pm. All Ages. Free.

Grupo Afinado com o Tempo

Cavaquinho ou guitarra, clarinete ou sintetizador em mãos, dois grupos musicais se apresentam e ganham destaque na noite belenense. Um arranca aplausos do público jovem, chegado a ritmos mais dançantes; outro aposta no som dos centros urbanos brasileiros do século passado, defendendo compositores que fizeram história no país do samba-de-roda em sua época de ouro. Os rótulos mais próximos para eles? Chorinho, pop rock e new wave - correntes distintas, com suas próprias tribos, ídolos e propostas estéticas. Mas, então, o que seria capaz de unir estes dois jovens grupos paraenses em uma mesma categoria musical? Simples: o charme e pegada únicos da veia feminina.

A vocalista e compositora do jovem quinteto de pop rock Duranium, Erika Fiore, enxerga com bons olhos as mudanças do cenário rock’n’roll, que incluiu de vez as mulheres após décadas de luta e preconceito. ’Já se foi o tempo em que isso era coisa pra meninos, não é? Hoje a gente vive uma pluralidade bem maior’, afirma. Formado no final do ano passado, a partir de um projeto musical dela e de Dina Hoyos (teclado), Amanda Seato (guitarra), Ricardo Wallace (baixo) e Luiz Magroni (bateria), o Duranium é claramente ’dominado’ pelas mulheres e pela influência de grandes nomes do glam, do pop e da new wave, como Duran Duran, A-Ha e David Bowie. ’No momento, já temos material próprio e começamos de vez no circuito noturno a partir de março’, garante a vocalista, que alfineta: ’Nosso foco não é divulgar um ’rock feminino’, até porque, a nosso ver, música nada tem a ver com gênero, e sim com qualidade e originalidade’.

Duranium presents new set list for 2008

Duranium got back to studio yesterday and we heard from them what they´re preparing for this year:

"We have a new set list coming along", says Erika Fiore, "including some of our own, we are writing material for a new album, that we intend to release until the end of the year."


"We're still facing some tecnical problems" says Dina Hoyos, "but is something, I believe, we can deal almost easily, is just a matter of time...all part of the creation process."


A business trip to Rio de Janeiro is scheduled for Erika Fiore some time this month.

A Message from Erika Fiore

"And there is this endless discussion about why the band Duranium has this name...in a recent concert, backstage, I told some friends that Duranium was the material that composed the hull of Voyager in Star Trek. Also, I just found out that Spielvan armour was made of Duranium cristals...

Just Google Duranium and we find some interesting things...

But the name of the band was actually a joke I made with Dina once...because there is a Duran duran song called "Playing With Uranium" and we thought about doing a T-shirt written "Playing with Duranium" to go to a DD concert...but soon we formed the band, we were looking for a new name, and I remembered this internal joke and suggested Duranium...Magroni loved the name right on time, and evrybody agreed...and since we used the name Duranium for the first time, we have been more than lucky...

So, Duranium we are, Duranium we will remain.
